BLUE DESTINY, AN INITIATIVE THAT INVITES VISITORS TO DISCOVER THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT OF SANTIAGO DEL TEIDE

This November, Santiago del Teide once again took part in the World Travel Market in London, one of the most important tourism trade fairs in the world, where it presented the Blue Destiny campaign. The initiative reflects the municipality’s relationship with the sea and the way in which this environment forms an essential part of its identity. The fair provided the ideal setting to showcase this perspective on the coastline, based on respect, sustainability and the natural richness of the waters that surround the municipality.

Throughout the event, tourism professionals were introduced to how Blue Destiny brings together the range of experiences available in this privileged setting and how the municipality continues to move forward with a model that integrates marine environmental protection with the visitor experience.

Blue Destiny: the identity of the destination through the sea

Blue Destiny arises from Santiago del Teide’s natural connection with the sea and from the richness of the waters that form part of the Teno-Rasca Marine Strip SAC (Special Area of Conservation), a protected space that is home to a wide diversity of marine species. In this environment, where the sea is an essential part of daily life in the municipality, the campaign brings together different ways of enjoying the ocean responsibly and respectfully.

Whale and dolphin watching aboard vessels committed to the Sustainability Charter, kayaking along the Cliffs of Los Gigantes, snorkelling and diving experiences to explore the rich seabed, and maritime excursions that allow visitors to discover the coastline from a different perspective all form part of this proposal.

All of these experiences share a common purpose: to bring visitors closer to the municipality’s marine essence and its way of relating to the ocean.

A model that values natural heritage

The presentation of Blue Destiny at the World Travel Market continued Santiago del Teide’s positioning as a destination associated with activities developed in balance with the environment.

The Councillor for Tourism, Luz Goretti Gorrín, highlighted the importance of attracting a visitor profile aligned with the values that define the destination. In her words:

“We are addressing a visitor profile that is more committed and respectful of the territory and its values, willing to generate higher spending in the destination, which in turn creates greater wealth and employment in our municipality, in line with our tourism positioning.”

For his part, Mayor Emilio Navarro underlined the role Blue Destiny plays within Santiago del Teide’s tourism project:

“Blue Destiny reinforces our way of understanding tourism: a model that values our natural heritage and is committed to responsible, close and sustainable experiences. It is an opportunity to continue highlighting the importance of caring for what surrounds us and sharing it with those who choose to visit us.”

A destination that evolves alongside its environment

The presentation of Blue Destiny at the World Travel Market forms part of the path Santiago del Teide has been following to highlight its natural heritage and the way it is experienced.

The municipality continues to move forward with a model that protects what defines it and invites visitors to experience the sea with respect, offering experiences that keep alive the relationship with a territory that is different by nature.
