Reforesting Santiago del Teide.

SDTree is a campaign that invites you to discover Santiago del Teide through caring for the land and connecting with the environment that defines the municipality. An initiative that stems from a specific action to reflect on the value of the landscape and the shared responsibility for its protection.

The campaign focuses on a reforestation initiative based on planting almond trees in the area surrounding the Chinyero Special Nature Reserve, involving residents, visitors, local tourism businesses, and municipal staff. A simple gesture, but one laden with meaning, reinforcing the idea that caring for the landscape is part of the destination’s identity.

SDTree values the knowledge and connection of the people who have worked and cared for the land over generations, reminding us that what is known and valued is cared for.

The SDTree campaign is part of Santiago del Teide’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda and to a development model that integrates sustainability into specific actions carried out in the territory. Through the reforestation action and the involvement of the local community and those who visit the municipality, SDTree contributes directly to five of the Sustainable Development Goals certified by the municipality.

Specifically, the initiative aligns with the SDGs: 8 (Decent work and economic growth), 11 (Sustainable cities and communities), 12 (Responsible consumption and production), 13 (Climate action), and 15 (Life on land). Furthermore, the campaign is designed as an action aimed at advancing the certification of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by bringing together administrations, the local business community, residents, and visitors in a shared initiative.

This approach reinforces Santiago del Teide’s position as the only municipality in Europe certified in 14 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, to continue to make progress towards achieving further recognition.
